American Idol: Girls & Guys

Finally...I would've had my thought on the girls posted yesterday, but like the DA I am, I type up most of it then took a break and then hurt my finger and couldn't type. It still hurts some, but I must soldier on. ;) So, anyway, I'm just posting my thoughts on both nights together...

Wow. I was not very impressed this week. I thought that at least half of the performances were worse than last week. There was only one contestant that I thought did great. But I'll get to that in a minute...

I was cracking up at the beginning when Ellen was sitting on Simon's lap and nuzzling him. I was just thinking that, no matter if he's attracted to Ellen or not, (not that it'd matter on her part) he just had to be affected. It really made me laugh. However, soon after Kara and Simon were back to being attached at the arms. I know that doesn't have to be a big deal, but really, Ellen and Randy aren't constantly touching, and Ellen and Kara aren't always arm to arm. It's just weird, it really stands out to me. I'm not saying that they are secretly in to each other, I'm simply stating that it's weird. Also, Kara gets on my bad side more and more every week. I think I decided last night that the reason for that is that we are alike in our opinions (for the most part.) I know, that should mean that I love her, but whatever. :)

Anyway, moving on to the perfs!

Katie Stevens - Worse.
Katie Stevens She opened the show Tuesday night with a poor rendition of Kelly Clarkson's 'Break Away.' I thought it was boring. Her voice in the lower parts seemed shaky and in the higher parts I thought she sounded nasal. I really don't think she will, but I think she is one of my picks to go home this week.

Siobhan Magnus - Slightly Worse.
Siobhan Magnus I say she was slightly worse, only because I thought she did really great last week. This week she sang 'House of the Rising Sun' by The Animals. I loved how she sang almost a capella. She has such a strong voice that she doesn't need much accompaniment. As much as I love her (she is one of my 3 favs) I still wonder what kind of music she would put out on a record. That's my only issue with her.

Lacey Brown - Better.
Lacey Brown She sang 'The Story' by Brandi Carlile. This week she was a lot better. It was a little boring for the show, however, I think I liked the choice for her. If it were a song I heard on the radio I'd like it more than when I'm waiting to be wowed while watching AI. But I really like her voice, she does fall short of being on my top 3 list, though.

Katelyn Epperly - Worse.
Katelyn Epperly She disappointed me this week with Carole King's 'I Feel the Earth.' I thought she seemed into it and she sang really well, but I just didn't like the song choice at all. I thought she was really great last week and then to come out with something totally different this week (and old at that) was just a bad choice. I do hope she stays, though.

Didi Benami - Better. Best.
Didi Benami Didi is another one of my top 3 and I thought she had the best performance of the night. She sang 'Rhiannon' by Fleetwood Mac. I loved that she sang with just the guitar, it comes across as such an honest performance when she sings that way. And I still love, love, love her voice.

Paige Miles - Worse.
Paige Miles She is my second pick to home tonight. Her rendition of Charlie Chaplin's 'Smile' did anything but make me smile. It was a horrible song choice and her voice was shaky throughout. She had a slow start that never really went anywhere.

Crystal Bowersox - Better.
Crystal Bowersox Crystal rounds out my top 3 girls, and with her perf on Tuesday, she's there to stay. Her performance of Tracy Chapman's 'Give Me One Reason' was maybe one of her strongest yet. She seemed much more into it than some of her other perfs and I've loved her all along. I really love her voice and believe I'd like the kind of album she'd put out.

Lilly Scott - Same.
Lilly ScottShe sang 'I Fall to Pieces' by Patsy Cline. I was a little worried when I heard what she was singing and I'm still not sure what I think about it. She sang well, I though, and I loved that she played the mandolin. I think 'Fixing A Hole' still might be her best performance for me.

Now, moving on to the guys...

Lee Dewyze - Better.
Lee Dewyze Lee opened the night with a song that I loathe, 'Fireflies' by Owl City. I mean, really, it's awful. However, I think he did better this week than last because he had his guitar back. He even made me somewhat warm to the song. He definitely did it better than the original. He is in my top 3 guys.

Alex Lambert - Worse.
Alex Lambert He was boring with Ray LaMontagne's 'Trouble.' I still like his voice and I'm worried he could go home this week. His perf was just boring and I couldn't feel any emotion as he sang.

Tim Urban - Better.
Tim Urban I am a fan of Tim Urban. He's another in my top 3 guys. My husband doesn't understand it, but I am. He sang Hallelujah, which has been done by various artist over the years. When they said he was doing that song, my husband looked over at me as I let out an audible groan. The reason for that is Jason Castro. He completely killed that song for me. However, thankfully, Tim was able to resurrect it for me. He had a solid voice and I loved the guitar. And yay for Ellen going over to hug him. ::squishes::

Andrew Garcia - Worse.

Andrew Garcia He sang 'Genie in a Bottle' by Christina Aguilera. He was one of my favorites, but I think he's stepped out of the running on that for me. This was a horrible song choice. That song is strictly a song that should be sang from a woman's point of view. Period.

Casey James - Better.
Casey James He sang Keith Urban's 'You'll Think of Me.' I love this song. Like, really. So I was happy to hear that he was doing it. Because of this, he's totally warming to me now. I loved the performance, I loved his voice. I even loved the pattern on his guitar! I think I may be a little biased to the song though. Either way, Casey is in my top 3 guys.

Aaron Kelly - Worse.
Aaron Kelly He sang 'Already There' by Lonestar. I freaking love this song too, but damn if he didn't butcher the beginning of it. He did do better in the stronger parts, but biased can't even make up for that. I hope he goes home.

Todrick Hall - Better.
Todrick Hall He sang Queen's 'Somebody to Love.' This reminded me of Happy Feet. I hate Happy Feet. I hated this song choice, but he did better with the not taking a good song and jacking it up, and he sang pretty well. I'd still like to see him go home, though. He is still coming across as much too cocky for me.

Michael Lynche - Worse.
Michael Lynche He sang Maxwell's 'This Woman's Work.' I didn't agree with the judges on this one at all. I thought he was pitchy in the high notes with only a kind of solid voice in the middle. I also couldn't help but giggle the way he was bouncing around the stage. I still like him though. My husband said that Kara needed to take a pill. This was one time that Kara and I didn't think alike.

So, there are my thoughts on the girls and guys this week. Tonight is the results show and I can't wait to see Matt Giraud perform! I just wish he was able to sing one of his own songs. Go look him up on youtube to hear some of his original songs!

ok i think i'm in agreement with you on a lot of what you said EXCEPT for Didi..I really don't like her voice at all. I was gobsmacked at the reaction the judges gave her..maybe it's just me. But as i've stated before I don't like that type of singing voice to begin with as you'll remember from last year so it's just a personal choice thing.

As for the rest of the girls..I like Siobhan and Crystal but the rest of them do nothing for me so i'm not going to be too worried as to who goes home other than those 2.

Regarding the guys..
I loved Toddrick doing Queen as I'm a closet fan of theirs..(showing my age more like)
I thought he was excellent..His voice was better than I ever anticipated..i lol'd at the Happy Feet thing cos my 2 straight away shouted out Happy Feet as soon as they heard the song too..

I also thought Lee was really good this week..again my 2 got all excited cos they love owl city ( don't know the song at all personally - *note to self 'turn on the radio more often'*)

I didn't know the Keith Urban song either but I thought Casey was brilliant..There was something quite powerful in his performance from my point of view...

Michael was really good but it wasn't as good as I thought the judges found it..so agreement on that one...

I found Alex to be kinda boring although he has the most fabulous tone to his voice...
I also thought poor Aaron was awful..that is a great song and he was all over the place with it..seriously! ugh ..very disappointed about that one...

As for Tim - I like Tim but i think he may be in a little trouble this week..allelujiah has been done to death over here lately with Alexandra Burke etc and X Factor so i'm quite sick of it, but i must give him credit at the same time..He has a really nice voice and there's something about him that's really appealing so I hope he stays..

Andrew - oh dear..I think he has a large fan base so he might scrape through but he was one of those contestants that shone too early like Kara said and just hasn't been able to live up to it..That performance was like a copy cat of the Straight Up one from Hollywood week so that was not good at all...

ok I have to mention the whole Simon leaning on Kara thing..How does she not freak out..seriously - I don't think it's a kara thing cos he was always like that with paula too..He constantly had his hand on paula's chair etc so it's obviously a 'thing' with Simon..

and last but not least I have to say that I am sick sick sick of listening to Kara going on and on and on and on..
She's seriously getting on my nerves..Last year I didn't warm to her for the simple fact that she was the newbie and it always takes a while to get used to things like that, but this year she just seems too cocky and opinionated or something. She loves the sound of her own voice..Maybe I'm being a litte harsh here , and I know that she is highly qualified for the job etc, but I've been finding it really tough to listen to her lately..
and I also found the crying thing a little OTT...ok that's my twopence worth I guess...
