American Idol: Top 11 - Billboard #1's

So, last night was a disaster. It all started with Miley Cyrus as the mentor. Seriously? Really? I'm sorry, but just because she's on Disney channel and can sell millions of records, sing well, she does not. Sure, some of her stuff isn't that bad, but overall, not mentor material in mt book. But, let's face it, my book counts for nothing. I'd just expect them to have better people.

Aside from that, the show didn't get much better...

Lee DeWyze - The Letter by The Boxtops
Lee Dewyze
Ok, I am a fan of Lee, but I was not a fan of this performance. I didn't think it was a good song choice for him, all the same he performed it well. The song seemed to move to fast compared to the original and I just really prefer the original too much to enjoy this one. Also, I think I prefer the more reserved Lee. With all the judges' talk of confidence, I hope he doesn't go crazy and lose who he is.

Paige Miles - Against All Odds by Phil Collins
Paige Miles
This was just horrible. She chose a great song, just not great for her. I'm not sure there is a great song for her out there. She even started off weak and she sounded, not pitchy, but just plain ol' off key throughout the rest. I couldn't wait for it to be over and I was cracking up when Ellen didn't even critique the song. "I'll just turn it over to Kara and Simon..."

Tim Urban - Crazy Little Thing Called Love by Queen
Tim Urban
Seriously, TIm? A ridiculous song choice with an even a more ridiculous performance. It wasn't as bad as Paige, but only because he actually sang well for part of it. I thought it was way too self indulgent and he's sure to be back in the bottom three this week. Sadly, I'm not even caring about that anymore.

Aaron Kelly - I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing by Aerosmith
Aaron Kelly
As soon as Ryan said that Aaron was doing Aerosmith, I think the world knew which song he had chosen. That is such a powerful song, I didn't think he ever quite 'got there' with it. He didn't do bad, he did great for being sick. I still don't really like him (for whatever reason) but I warmed to him a little more this week.

Crystal Bowersox - Me and Bobby McGee by Janis Joplin
Crystal Bowersox
She was by far the best performance of the night. Possibly the entire season so far. She freaking killed it, resurrected it and then killed it again. She was into it, it was a great choice and her voice was perfect. I'd not heard this song in a long while (if ever at all) and so I didn't realize just how much she sounds like Janis Joplin, but it's crazy. Listen. I was so excited about this perf that I wanted to get up off the couch. I'm not sure what I would've done next, but still. I was a little sad that she insinuated that she won't have the guitar next week, but she's so awesome I'm sure she can pull it off. And finally, I loved that she had that carpet out there to stand on. I didn't notice until Ryan mentioned it, but it was just something unique to Crystal.

Michael Lynche - When A Man Loves A Woman by Percy Sledge
Michael Lynche
I thought this was a good song choice. His voice was good, it had a good sound. There weren't as many theatrics in his performance this week and I was grateful. The only thing that bothered me was his falsetto at the end, I just didn't like it. This wasn't my favorite performance of his and that's most likely because this song has history for me and I've heard it all my 25 years of life.

Andrew Garcia - I Heard It Through The Grapevine by Marvin Gaye
Andrew Garcia
Ugh. This was another horrible song choice, performance...everything. It seemed more like he was talking rather than singing. It was not current - at all. And I swear he was saying "great-vine" instead of "grapevine." He's definitely bottom three material.

Katie Stevens - Big Girls Don't Cry by Fergie
Katie Stevens
I'm completely frustrated with this one. I thought she sounded good until she took the mic off the stand and from there on, I thought she was bad. It was major pitchy. Every week they commend her for listening and taking their advice, but I don't think that should keep her around. Just because she 'listens' doesn't mean she's actually getting better. I also hate how Kara was telling her what her path should be. I feel like she should know what her path is. They shouldn't have to tell her who she is.

Casey James - The Power of Love by Huey Lewis and the News
Casey James
I laughed so hard when he said to Miley: "I'm a big fan of your dad." I'm not sure it was supposed to be funny or that he meant anything bad by it, but I loved it. What I didn't love, however, was his performance and song choice. I thought it sounded like the original too much and I think he's better than that. I don't like that he keeps playing the electric guitar. That's not getting any points from me, but what do I matter? He has Kara. I'd just prefer he do more slow songs, ballads and the like. I didn't think he did bad exactly, just totally not for me.

Didi Benami - You're No Good by Linda Ronstadt
Didi Benami
Ryan cracked me up when he flubbed her name and called her "Benimi." It wouldn't have been that funny, but he was laughing at himself, so I couldn't help but giggle along. Anyway, about the perf. I thought she did well. I like that she has different side to her. I didn't agree with the judges that she was pitchy, but I'm partial to her and that couldn't be why I didn't hear it. As she sang I was reminded of Betty Boop. I'm not sure if that is an accurate description, but just the way that I recall Betty Boop talking, that's what I thought of as Didi was singing the words "You're no good, you're no good, you're no good." There's probably a better comparison. I also thought of a flapper, but whatever. I loved her performance.

Siobhan Magnus - Superstitious by Stevie Wonder

Siobhan Magnus
I wasn't impressed with this one...well, maybe that's harsh. I just wasn't into this one. I think it could've just been the song choice. She did well though throughout and she totally rocks my socks when she hits those powerful notes at the end. My husband has been a fan until now. He's not a fan of the sock rocking blasting of her pipes. He's not a fan of Adam Lambert for the same reason...well, that, and his theatrics, but whatever. Either way, I still love her and can't wait to see what she does next.

This week overall was not good but I had to pick my bottom three. This week me and my husband actually agreed with who we thought would be and who we wanted to be in the bottom three: Andrew, Paige, and Tim.

Who was your favorite and who do you want to see leave tonight?
